A Wringer of a Week

Happy Sunday-Monday, Journeyer!

Well what can I say but it’s been another interesting week, with a few dilemmas that left me feeling like I was put through the proverbial wringer…

You know those expressions…”When it rains it pours…”

And so it continues…

Warren and I spent several evenings correcting errors in our year-end tax documents…

I’ve been fighting off some kind of stomach bug, the details of which I’ll spare you…

I have two enormous knots in my back that have been causing me pain…

I had several nights of interrupted sleep, which always leaves me feeling drained…

Our washer died, leaving a puddle of black disintegrated metal all over our floor and up the walls…

The new ones we purchased were too tall for the cabinets, which then had to be moved up…

Big Guy phoned with some unsettling news…such is the life of parenting teenagers…

Another coworker’s mother died unexpectedly…and though we experience more death among our elders as we reach middle age and beyond, it is never easy…

Despite these unpleasant distractions, there were, as there always are moments and events that made me smile and brought peace to my heart…

Warren has been getting up every morning to warm up my car. Seeing as how I am up, showered, dressed, groomed, have breakfast in hand and am headed out the door in about twenty minutes, this gesture is one that has great meaning to me.

I finally got into see my massage therapist who worked her magic and then I was able to follow up with an electrical stem unit Warren and I purchased as Christmas gifts to ourselves.

We had money saved up and were able to purchase a new washer and dryer set, which also happened to be on sale.

We had a group of friends over to the Super Bowl and enjoyed catching up with people we don’t see nearly as often as we’d like.

I’ve been rehearsing my speech for the upcoming event I’m honored to be a part of and am happy to report that I only have another two minutes to memorize!

And the greatest news of all? Lori Deschene of Tiny Buddha accepted a pitch I’d sent and asked me for an article!

Are you familiar with the Tiny Buddha site and Lori’s new book, 365 Tiny Love Challenges? If not, checkout both links for some fabulously inspiring stories.

Tiny Buddha’s theme is “simple wisdom for complex lives.” You’re going to love what you’ll find there!

That sentiment reminds me of the meaning behind this column…Happiness is nothing more than the collection of simple moments that bring joy, warm our hearts, or bring us some modicum of peace.

Could it be that an emotional wringer is simply a way of squeezing out the sweat of our suffering and an invitation for fresh breaths of air?

This week is sure to bring good things, Journeyer! Lori is hoping to get back to me on the article later this week AND I have a four-day weekend ahead of me, which means I’ll have many needed hours to write and work on  The Five Facets updates.

What about you, Journeyer, how do you loosen up when you’ve been put through the emotional or physical wringer? Connecting  with you is always a highlight of my week and your comments so helpful to our neighbors everywhere. Please, comment away!

Until we meet again, yours in hope, healing, and happiness,

Annah Elizabeth Signature

    1. HAHA! Yes! When it rains, go dance! My son and his girlfriend once posted a video of them dancing in the rain! It was so inspiring! One day I might even be moved to emulate them. 😉
